Photo trips

Starting with 2009 I will organize photo tours and workshops.
They will focus on wildlife photography specifically, and nature photography in general.

Participating at one of my workshops will enable beginners and amateurs alike to accumulate techniques, skills and knowledge necessary in creating beautiful images of nature.
Spanning from the basic rules of exposure to advanced field techniques and ornithology information, they will help form a solid base for every participant.

I will also teach advanced editing techniques in Adobe Photoshop, to provide participants with essential knowledge about optimizing their images.

The tours and workshops will be based near Brasov and will include visits in the spectacular Piatra Craiului and Bucegi National Parks.

In the future I plan to include the Danube Delta in the Photo Tours program.

The first workshop should be available in early spring, just in time for the bird migration and nesting activities.

A brave butterfly missing one antenna (probably after a fight).

I loved the reflective quality of the flower and the glowing effect.

Willow leafed gentian (Gentiana asclepiadea)

The Romanian name is "Lumanarica pamantului" (Earth's little candle).

I wanted to convey that name in an image, so I used a reflector at the base of the flower to create the "illumination effect".

The background is natural (a shadowed forest interior).

The plant is known in the Romanian folklore for it's healing properties (flue, liver affections, anorexia, etc).

Hepatica Transylvanica (endemic) the Romanian folk name is "Brave man's cross".

Common speedwell (Veronica chamaedry) with a beautiful, neon-like, glow

Bug Orchid (Orchis coriophora)

Forget-me-not (Myosotis sylvatica) - ubiquitous but very delicate and beautiful.

WILDLIFE

This is a 5 year old female bear. The image was captured in fading light at one of Romsilva's bear hides (near Piatra Craiului National Park).

I will include such visits in future workshops & photo tours (for more details please check WORKSHOPS & PHOTO TOURS section).

BIRDS

Short eared owl (Asio flammeus), a rare winter visitor. A real treat to see and photograph .

Buzzard landing (Buteo buteo)

I've spotted this bird hovering over a meadow in a late afternoon from July 2008, while driving back home.
Stopped the car, crawled very slowly by the edge of the road and waited. After a few minutes I discovered what the buzzard was so focused on - a field vole.
Trying to anticipate where the raptor would strike I've repositioned myself in order to have the cleanest background and best light angle.
Unfortunately (for the bird) the field vole was quick enough to hide in one of it's burrows.

Fieldfare (Turdus pilaris), scanning the meadow for earthworms.

Curiosity

This is a female redstart looking very curious and inquisitive at it's partner (which was singing from a neighboring tree).

I just loved the setting and the beautiful light filtered through the leaves.

Vibrations

It's the same female redstart (as in the first post), but doing something different.

I wanted to capture a bit more than a portrait, so I've tried a different exposure setting.

Marsh Harrier (Circus aeruginosus), a male bringing materials to the nest.

Red-backed Shrike (Lanius collurio) , this is one of my favorite images. I've take it in June 2008 as the sun was setting over Homorod Valley.

White Storks mating

Created in April 2008 in a small village from Transylvania.

The weather was awful (thick overcast and steady rainfall), but the moment was magical.

Dipper (Cinclus cinclus)

A beautiful and brave little bird.

I've captured the image in a late evening from June 2008, while this dipper was having dinner.

Green Woodpecker (Picus viridis)

An unusual place to see green woodpeckers, as they prefer feeding on the ground.

Little Owl (Athene noctua)

First light in a beatiful morning from June 2008.

This image is the result of many months of trial & error attempts.

Also one of the most memorable (and magic) nights I've ever experienced.

The foreground is Magura Saddle, the lowest part of Piatra Craiului mountain range (I live at it's foothills).
